   April:

  Week 1

Monday – 4-4

Well it's a new month, and the weather here still isn't terrible.  It's usually in the 60's and sunny half the time, but when the sun isn't out it can be really cold.  Especially in the house it can get cold because it's made of concrete and bricks, but they have been turning on the heat everyday now.  :)  We have now moved into the Vanguardia period of literature in my lit class....and even ezra pound was mentioned *wink wink jaime*   but we didn't really cover any of his work.   I realized I will never get behind in my readings again because making up the pages I missed stinks.  I read over 35 pages yesterday of novels and poetry, and I know that doesn't seem very much, but in another language with slang and different dialects it can be a lot of work.  Thankfully I only have about 40 pages left.  I have also read 175 of my alexander the great book.  Only 250 more to go!  I figure I can finish that in a month, and then move on to something else.  I want to read 3 books on my own while I'm here, depending on their size.  I suppose being here has awoken my ability to read...family be proud.

Tuesday - 4-5

Normal day..nothing really interesting really happened.  Sorry!

Wednesday - 4-6

I allready having downloaded some internet games for when I get bored here decided to ask Rocio if she wanted to play monopoly.  The problem was that when I went to find it it was gone. I must have erased it.  No problema.  We played some other games, such as tetris, tangram, and mini-golf.  Then in a joking manner I asked her if she wanted to play Doom, and she didn't know what it was so I loaded it up on my computer and she got all excited, (i'm sure nick and jill will get a kick out of this) and said "ohhhhhh this is like quake!"  She actually likes those types of games.  I couldn't believe it and she used to play quake too.  Tan interesante.  We played doom for at least an hour beating levels 1-7 and it was fun for me because I knew where to go and I'd tell her.  Also I had to explain what all of the objects were and I got to practice my command forms in spanish!  Which I might add are lacking a bit, but I'll work on them.

Thursday - 4-7

After my classes today I went to the library to talk to Mauricio.  This is another Mauricio, one who works at the library and studied information technology.  I told him I was unable to find a wireless card and he said to come back tomorrow at noon and he would take me into the centro to buy one.  Apparently he has connections and knows where to buy just what I need.  I just hope it all works out because then I don't have to buy one from the internet.  wooohooo.   Now that's hospitality.  I can't believe it.  That type of thing would never happen in the states. So since I couldn't play monopoly yesterday I'm going to download it and play today.  I figured out that it would be a good exercise because it's in english and I could translate.  That'll get me talking more.

Friday - 4-8

I went into the centro today and looked for wireless cards with the guy that works at the library.  We went to different shops, but with the same result as before.  Only one shop had it and it was 100 bucks...and one of the worst brands ever....D-link...I don't know why they are so hung up on D-link...it's a terrible brand that never works very well, but they are all D-link certified sellers....I think D-link maybe tricked someone that didn't know better to sell their products...Since we did not find anything he, mauricio, said he would check with his friends, bring me a few and then we would test them at the library.  I hope one works.  In addition he told me he's a firefighter, and his dream is to go to the states.  Then he asked me if I could help him learn english and at first I thought he meant for freee, because he was helping me with this wireless deal, but then he asked me how much would he need to pay me....This I did not know so I told him that I would ask my family for a fair price and then promptly went home.  My aunt ligia told me that 5,000 pesos or about 9 dollars for a class would be fair, and one class would be an hour so 9/hour ain't to bad.  I may need to make some money while I'm here anyway because I don't wanna run out and my family tells me I should travel.  I know I'd like too, but the problem is that would blow away around a quarter to a third of my savings, and I'm not sure I want to do that, but if I get a wireless card that would save a lot of money.

Friday Night - 4-8

So nothing much happened on saturday or sunday so I decided to extend the friday journal.  The mother went to see her oldest daughter, the first that I met (carola), in santiago.  Since the parents were away, of course the kids want to play and Sol, the youngest daughter (16), wanted to go out badly because she never gets too because of her age.  Also Rocio doesn't want to be responsible for Sol when she goes out and refuses to take her with.  Anyways, they were arguing and it was funny to me, because Rocio was like the mother now and Sol was like her kid.  Sol would say how responsible she is and rocio would negate it.  After about an hour of talking, it was decided that Sol could go out with her friends but her cousin jose miguel had to go too.  And guess what their curfew was!  4 am!  When I was 16 I never could have gone out till that late, but of course I could drive then, and they can't drive till they are 18 here.  So everyone was leaving and I had my laptop out in the living room and we were listening to music, and they wanted to listen to eminem (sorry jill hahaha).  So we did for awhile and everyone left.  Rocio and I just listened to music and talked about our favorite bands again and then we played Doom.  After about an hour tia ligia came back with her daughter angela and they all drank coffee.  YUCK.  I hate coffee and tea and they can't seem to understand that I don't like it, because they drink it everyday.  Well jaime you know why as we hate it for the same reason.  I also don't like tea because it tastes like dirt to me.  I will never ever drink either!  and I'm gonna hang a sign around my neck that reads: no cafe, ni te.    hahahha.  After another hour of playing doom we played monopoly on my computer and I lost.  I swear that the computer rigs the game because I landed on the jail square 6-7 times in a row!  This way I never passed go to get my 200 bucks, and while this was happening, the computer player ALWAYS happened to miss landing on my properties with houses! and everyone elses too!   I mean what the heck is going on here!   So basicallly when the computer player had enough money it finally landed on my houses, and I knew that was going to happen.  Stupid game.  Basically I turned it off right there.  haha.
