   April:

  Week 2 

Monday – 4-11

   Overall I'd say today was a good day(just like the icecube song).  First I went to class, but the class was cancelled(free day!)  I came home and read a bit more of alexander the great and i've now read more than 250 pages of it.  Then I went into town with my aunt ligia to take care of some business because my atm card wasn't working anymore and i needed to pay rent.  I also found out that we're getting cable today!  The guy came over to install it, but he was missing something so we have to wait until tomorrow i think.  Now I can watch the NBA playoffs.  Then rocio, her cousin loretto and I played cards and watched tv, and I discovered that rocio has to wear a splint or appliance when she sleeps because she grinds her teeth, just like some people i know. :)  guess its a common problem.  She said her jaw is like the jaw of a 50 or 60 year old because she'd grinded since she was 10.  i hope i dont have these problems because i know i grind once in awhile and i'll have a headache when i wakeup but that's not very often.  

Tuesday - 4-12

    Let's see, since the bank didn't respond to my dilemma I decided to call my dad.  Except when I went to the mercadito to get a calling card they didn't have any. So I went to the gas station and they didn't have any either. Rocio's right:  when you need something in valdivia, it does't exist, like the wireless card i want.   haha.  Anyways, i finally found a card at pixel and it turns out its better than the old ones i used to use.  It costs less and i get more minutes!  After a few minutes of phone talk i finally found out that my idiota bank invalidated my existing card because i ordered a new one.....well i had specifically asked them the minute that i had ordered the thing, "will this void the card i allready have?"..."no you can use both" said the teller.....well the teller wasnt a wise feller i'd say....because she was wrong.  My card is void...the only means of getting money gone....and i have about 15 dollars now....but that can go a long way.  it'll have too if the card i have now doesnt get reactivated, because it will take 2 weeks to send my new card.  asi es la vida.  or c'est la vie.    o ce la vitta......or thats life...haha.

Wednesday - 4-13

     After eating lunch I played basketball with rocio.  I kinda had to teach her some things but she had played before.  As we were playing we heard this screeching.  It was a little dog barking at two bigger dogs to back off.  It was trying to protect itself.  It hid under a car but still the dogs pursued it sniffing it looking at it.  Finally I went over and called it to me and it came almost before I had called it.  The other two huge dogs left immediately and then there were 3 playing basketball. haha.  He was very timid and scared and I think was just plain lost.  He hung around until some other kids came to the basketball court and started playing with it.  But eventually we all had to leave sometime and it stayed underneath a basketball pole hiding.  Got home around 7 and everyone ate dinner and then Rocio, her cousins jose and loretto and I all played cards.  They even broke out the guitar and played some Nirvana!   Jose and I even talked about video games and for once I felt like my lack of fluidity in spanish didn't hold back the conversation to much which is a good sign!  I have also found that I'm saying things a little faster and more automatically, but only sentences of 5 words or less.  

Thursday - 4-14

   One thing that I forgot to mention in monday's journal was that I had 2 dreams in spanish: a real breakthrough, as though who study another language know.  In one I was talking to one of the chilean students who lives in this house about the rules of english like she already knew some.   The funny thing is she doesn't know any english in real life.  Well in my dream we were talking about why things are the way they are in english, but the funny thing is that I gave her an spanish accent when she spoke english, but how would I know what her english would sound like if she doesn't speak it?!?   strange...The other dream is completely irrelevant.  All that happened was that the mother asked me to move a car so she could park hers, but it was spanish.   The other thing that's happening as of late is that I'm working on a group project about linguistics and it simply requires that we use english sources because the library has most linguistical books in english. Don't ask me why.   Anyways, I've found that I'd almost rather read spanish than english.
