   April:

  Week 3

Monday – 4-15 ----Thursday 4-21

Since I was so busy at the end of the last week until now I've decided to lump that time into one journal because I simply cannot remember day by day what happened.  Last week around Friday I started working on my first paper for literature.  It had to be of 4-5 pages which to me seemed to be a big step.  Before that I have never written more than 2 pages in Spanish.  Also I had to analyze a work by an author, with a certain theme in mind.  I finally, after much thought, decided how I would write it and I think it turned out fine.  My tia ligia helped me correct it when I had the rough draft done.  The good thing is that she thought I did very well, and that my grammar was pretty good.  I only had small. errors and she corrected those.  That helped me a lot because I'm already taking in those changes. I remember how to write certain phrases.  What else helped me was reading my Alexander the great book, because I learned certain phrase structures.  After all the work I put into it, I hope that I get a good grade.  After that I was relieved, but not too much because I had yet another paper to write.  Thankfully I didn't have to write too much as it was a group paper for linguistics.  I sure am learning a lot about history here, and more important from the point of view from the native speakers here.  I finally got that paper finished to on Thursday, and guess what; i have another one due the next week.  We got cable tv and I've noticed how bad some of the translation between english to spanish is.  I try not to watch english tv too much, but when a really god show or movie is on I will watch a little bit of it.  I definitely prefer the spanish programs because they are sometimes much more interesting.  Brujas, for instance, is very entertaining and I, like many others, plan my day around it.  Plus it's always good when one learns a language to watch a tv show whether it be the news, soap or other.  its great for listening.  Over the weekend my mother and her daughter sol moved to santiago to help the oldest daughter with her living situation.  Also sol wants to attend college there and since she's going to graduate highschool next year she figured she might as well go now.  Its all clear to me now why one of the other daughters and her family of tia ligia moved in last week.  The daughters name is angela, and with her came: loretto(oldest daughter), jose miguel, and charlene.  And now I can say that I feel your pain Jill of having a little sibling.  hahaha.  The coolest thing i've found out about my tv is that in may they're gonna show all the starwars movies!   Hopefully they won't translate the voices.  Maybe I can make rocio watch them because shes a terminator and predator lush.  So I got my parents care package and I gotta say thanks.  I already ate the mnms but I had a little help from the family here.  They said thanks for sending them.   I'm hoping that today, thursday, I can go see about hooking up some internet because I spend at least 20-30 bucks a month anyway at pixel.   This way doing homework will be much more convenient, and I will be able to upload my webpage easier.  I have my fingers crossed that it will work, becuase I'm sick of going to pixel all the time and all the stations are full, or when they aren't, people are really loud.

Friday – 4-15 ----Sunday 4-21

I was so relieved having turned in both reports that were due on monday and thursday that i went out and played some basketball.  I also tried running again but i'm still having some shin splints.  Basketball works for me though because it doesn't hurt my legs.  Now then, it was a pretty normal day friday but i didnt find out that i cant have the internet here because you have to contract it for a year and i'm not going to be here more than 3 months now.  Which reminds me that i've been here for exactly 2 months now.  yay.  Time is really flying as i'm more and more adjusted.  I was so bored after i came home from the internet cafe that i decided to ask rocio if she wanted to go to the bunker.  its the first place i went with carola and we had papas bravas and played cards.  Basically papas bravas are potato chunks with a picante sauce.  mmmmmm, but they werent that hot.  i beat her twice in reboltivo or however you spell it and she beat me three times in a game like uno.  I decided to get ahead and write my next paper and i actually finished it in one day.  it wasnt that hard though, just about my museum visit here.  the museum was pretty cool as it had some books in latin.  i tried to read them but my latin skills have plummeted a lot.   oh well what do i need it for anyway.  its more like a hobby for me.  Later on in the day my brother jose miguel told me that the nba was on so i watched the pacers get crushed by the celtics.  i really thought that the pacers would win.  oh well.  I also saw that the pistons killed the 76ers.  yay.  maybe they will go undefeated.  i doubt it, but i want them to win again.  a little later i was studying..get this....at like 11 pm on a saturday.  then all of the sudden, rocio popped in my room and asked if i wanted to go to the bunker for a sandwich.   of course i said yes because those things are really good, and larger than life too.  Then we had a good conversation about the other members of the family and i definitely know them better now.  and jill, my jac is worse than your jac.  no contest.  sorry.  i'll explain later!  hahahaha.  anyyyyyyways, i might go to santiago to visit the carola, the sol, the marisol, and the papa.   they add the word the when they are talking about any person.  la carol, la sol....etcetera.  then i'll get to see all 3 sisters fighting.  i should bring my video camera.  hahaha.  So now its sunday and i have to say that i still hate sundays the most.  they are just as boring here as they are in the states.  Plus you know that the next day you have to go back to school, but i actually like that here because its different.
