Diary/Diario March: Week
4 Monday – 3-21 Well today I went to my literature class and found out since no one really wanted to talk about the material that we were going to have a pop quiz. yay. Thank god my tia ligia helped me read my play last night or I wouldn't have know anything at all. You see it's in spanish, but in an argentinian dialect and she translated the words I didn't know. It was also written in ancient spanish they call it in 1905. Well I worked out for about 2 hours today..light walking, running and even a little pilates. Right now I'm off to eat dinner and watch Brujas, the new sensation telenovela...or soap opera. hey I have to learn spanish somehow. Tuesday - 3-22 Well hello all. Today I had no class again so I went to the public library with my aunt ligia and got 3 books. I had to recheck out Alexander the great, and I got two more novels. I keep seeing great expectations, but i don't think I am up to reading it. sorry jaime. anyway, today was an overall day because i woke up thinking in spanish. thats the first step in becoming fluent for me. As my aunt said i'm learning how to work the langauge. I read another chapter of my alexander book because it's sooo darn interesting. I also found out that watching tv is becoming easier to watch. I'm understanding even more and not have to concentrate so hard. Hopefully this will become the case in my classes. Wednesday - 3-23 Today I had two classses, my lit class and linguistics. I found out that in the latter class we have to research a topic in groups and write a paper and do a big presentation at the end....soounds verryyyy borring, but i have to take it. I'll survive, like diana ross? i cant remember anything that has to do with english anymore....i guess i'm borraring (spanglish) erasing english. thats ok though...i also found out that i'm a tasty treat for the sancudos and mosquitos....they love me..especially my face. i swear i have 3-4 bites on my face already....and they get bigger than the bumps of a mosquito. darn sancudos. Thursday - 3-24 Well guess what? I"m finally a citizen of valdivia...or at least i have my id! it took a minute too because my aunt went with me and she got me the hook up..haha..she asked the information desk if they could give me my card because otherwise i'd have to wait for at least an hour because they have horrendous lines there.....i guess its almost like a DMV. So now that thats over with we went back to the library and (yes i'm becoming somewhat of a reader...mom and dad be proud....you too jaime) and got another book for my lit class...its callled the underdogs...or in spanish los de abajo. Another good piece of news is that i'm finally understanding what they talk about at the dinner table....i'm not completely lost anymore. i'm even catching on to their jokes. maybe i'll start telling some soon. Friday - 3-25
Sunday - 3-27 Well Easter was an interesting day. The entire family came over and we all ate empanadas or turnovers. Everyone was talking so fast I didn't understand because they were also talking about things I had never heard of such as tv shows here. Anyways, we were all awaiting the cake the mother had made. It was chocalate......with four layers....and chocolate frosting but it wasn't as good as my mother's. Not as rich I would have to say. After eating my sisters rocio and sol their cousin and I played card games and talked. We played nervios I think it's called, where each player has a stack of cards and they put one in the middle. You lay one in the middle and say 1, then the next person lays down the next and says 2. This continues until you reach king and then starts with 1 again. It ends when the number anyone calls actually matches the card layed down and the last person to smack their hand on the pile has to take all those cards...Basically you want to get rid of all your cards in your hand and you win. That's basically how my day went.
